CAM’s Wine Club

The Colorado State University Alumni Association partnered with Odell Brewing Company's OBC Wine Project to sell a wine club membership, and our design team was presented the opportunity to create a custom label for one of the bottles in the pack.

CAM's wine club

We wanted to have fun with the opportunity, and presented a few concepts for "CAM's Cabernet," a play on Colorado State University's mascot, CAM the Ram, and the type of wine we were creating a label for, Cabernet Sauvignon.

One option was a playful bike ride across CSU's campus, another explored vintage typography with CSU-centered phrases, and the third option showed CAM holding up a glass of wine. The third option was chosen to explore further.

With the third option selected, we further honed the illustration from temporary stock art to full custom illustration. The side panel presented another opportunity to be playful, and our team's writers came up with copy that both informed the drinker and paid homage to Colorado State University by embedding part of the university's fight song within.

Update July 2024:

The initial series of 3 labels is complete, with the next two labels featuring a Sports Letterman CAM and Spring Time Shades CAM.

No. 2’s edition was a different sized bottle, so the label is slightly resized.

Update July 2025:

The next 3 labels in the series focused on CSU Traditions, featuring The A (a large symbolic A painted in a hill near campus), CAM the Ram (in both his wine-loving iteration, and the animal ambassador), and agriculture (Colorado’s western slope vineyards produce OBC Wine).

No. 4’s edition was a different sized bottle, so the label is slightly resized.

The CSU Alumni Association takes photos with the bottles periodically. Below are a few photos (including CAM the Ram himself!):
