CAM’s Truck and Trailer
The CSU Alumni Association manages the care of Colorado State University's live animal ambassador, CAM the Ram, and his truck and trailer were due for an upgrade in 2024. CAM the Ram travels to sports rallies and other events across the state, so branding his truck and trailer offers a chance for thousands of eyes on the road to see CSU's brand.
We wanted to have fun with the opportunity, so initial sketches explored CSU's tertiary color palette of bright blues, green, and reds.
The first sketch played into the speed of a vehicle, spraying up colorful splotches of color from the CSU Green truck. The second sketch explored a topographic map of Colorado, since this trailer would be going on the road across the state. The third sketch was having fun with the star inside, a sort of Taylor Swift Eras Tour poster collage plastered across the vehicle .
The CSUAA team selected option two. We got to work finding an accurate topographic map of the Northern Colorado area, which proved to be rather difficult; I ended up using Bunting Labs Topo Contour Lines tool to get started, then modified the SVG file output further in Illustrator to smooth out jagged areas.
Some of the typography is accurate to the region (Rocky Mountains), but some of the smaller texts are easter eggs to CSU ("tear 'em asunder" above "CAM").
CAM the Ram (and his Ram Handlers) now ride the streets in Ram Pride!
